Compare standard sizes and custom layouts

Ask what custom means in each quote. Which parts are made to fit your opening? Which hardware is standard, and which choices are included?

For a standard-size system, check:

• The opening size the system fits and how much it can adjust.
• The door and panel layouts available for that size.
• The available hardware styles and finishes.
• Whether the system suits your finished walls and curb.

For a custom proposal, discuss:

• The glass and supports needed for the panel sizes.
• Where doors, fixed panels and any angled sections will go.
• The hardware style and finish, and whether it fits the glass.
• Clear, low-iron or privacy glass, plus any coating you want to compare.
• When the finished opening will be measured.
• The order of work and availability of the parts.

Configurations to compare

The layout affects how you get into the shower and where water can splash. Here are some arrangements to discuss:

An inline door and panels run straight across the opening. Leave room for the door to open without hitting fixtures.

A corner enclosure has glass on two sides. Check where the door will sit and where the glass corner meets the curb.

An angled enclosure follows an angled shower base. The entry needs to work with the adjoining walls and panels.

A walk-in panel leaves the entry open. Check the showerhead direction and where splashes may land before choosing one.

Full-height glass reaches farther up the room and needs suitable support. If you want to use the enclosure for steam, plan the whole room for that purpose.

Stepped walls and sloped ceilings need a closer look. Send drawings or photos so we can assess the opening before you settle on a design.

Glass and hardware decisions

Bring a photo of the look you like. Compare the glass and hardware with your own tile and fixtures, since the same enclosure can look different in another room.

Compare clear and low-iron glass beside your tile if samples are available.

For privacy, think about the view from outside the shower and which area you want screened.

Ask how to clean the glass, hardware and any coating you choose.

A finish name is only a starting point. Check the manufacturer and color against the fixtures you want to match.

Prepare for the project

Work out the order of tile, plumbing and glass work before choosing an installation date. Confirm what needs finishing before the final measurement.

Final measurements need to account for the finished walls, curb and fixtures. Tell us about changes still planned; they may change the glass size.

Before approving the job, check the layout and materials. Make sure the quote explains access needs and any work that falls outside the glass installation.

Compare the written scope

Look for the panel layout, glass and hardware in the quote. Check whether installation, removal and preparation are included. Ask about anything unclear.

Keep the drawings and product details with each quote. Two prices may cover different layouts, finishes or work.

If another contractor is changing the shower opening, agree who handles each stage and when the final dimensions can be taken.
